very large spaces - Copy Page Tree target page drop down does not populate

Description

Update:
We have determined that for relatively large spaces the Atlassian API our add-on uses does not return results, but rather times out. In other words our add-on asks Confluence for a list of pages in the space, but Confluence does not respond with an answer. Thus we've definitively determined that to be a bug in the Atlassian Confluence API. However Atlassian has now deprecated that API and offered a newer REST API which means we have to rewrite large parts of the add-on. And Atlassian no longer supports the API we are using. At the time of creating the add-on we used that API because it was the only one available.

We have identified that Confluence sometimes times out on the destination drop down. This seems to be a proxy issue or bug with the JSON-RPC api which is not paginated.

We also need to define what very large spaces/how many page where these problems start to pop up.

These issues should be largely resolved now. There are a few remaining issues for very large page trees, and fixes for those are now in progress. If anyone continues to experience problems like these, we should open new, specific cases. Please do so by submitting a ticket via our customer support portal as we no longer monitor Jira issues for new support requests.

Hi Brendan,

To answer your questions:
1) Even on a very small 'temp' space the drop down is sometimes not populating for the target?

Correct.

2) You are sometimes getting errors on the copy itself? Could you copy/paste or screenshot those errors here?

Yes. I've attached the examples. They are the same.

Linda has tested this out as well. We have something new to add to the mix. When she ended with a successful page tree copy as a test, she ended up receiving error messages when attempting to delete the page tree that she had copied. She ended up having to delete each page individually (ouch!).

Just keep us in the loop. Hopefully they're be a fix soon.

Our team is looking at options for a move to a more stable platform. But in the interim, we plan to keep working with what we have.

Thanks again for your help.
Jessica

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for letting me know.

We are starting to run into a few such issues with this add-on where large tree structures are involved. I think we need to create some large tree structures locally and test with those to try to reproduce the issue at which point we should be able to fix it.

So you are saying:
1) Even on a very small 'temp' space the drop down is sometimes not populating for the target?
2) You are sometimes getting errors on the copy itself? Could you copy/paste or screenshot those errors here?

We have reports of errors occurring for very large copies but the copies still completing successfully.

To trouble shoot this and related support requests I've created these tracking issues:
https://artemis.atlassian.net/browse/CPTC-8
https://artemis.atlassian.net/browse/CPTC-9
https://artemis.atlassian.net/browse/CPTC-10

If you can answer the questions above that will be helpful.

Sorry I don't have an estimate right now on when we will get this fixed.

I can tell you if you at some point decide to move to "Confluence Server" which can be hosted at places such as Contegix you'll not run into these issue and you'll have thousands more add-ons to choose from.
Cheers,
Brendan

Hi Brendan,

Unfortunately this morning we discovered the same issue with the the work around (using the temp space). I did quite a few tests (copying from the main space into the temp space and then copying directly within the temp space itself). Sometimes it works, and other times it blanks out the drop-down field as before or throws an error message. The times that is is successful, the folder structure can be moved without a problem. Moving folder structures isn't a problem. It's just copying the large page tree structures, as before.

Thanks-Jessica

Hi!

Please make sure the add-on has full read/write access to all pages in the space.

Please review this:  https://artemis.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=44597250#CrossProductSupport/CommonTroubleshooting-Cloudadd-ononlyinformation

Please visit your 'restricted pages'  admin page to see if any pages are restricted in the space.

The Confluence permission model is a bit non-intuitive and Atlassian doesn't allow add-ons to work when pages or spaces have restrictions that keep the add-on out.
Cheers,
Brendan
